As the saying goes, “Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food.” At Salon Fido, we whole heartedly believe that one of the best ways to create a happier, healthier, and longer life for any pet, cat, or dog, is through a biologically appropriate fresh food diet.
Over the last decade Kayla and I have attended countless seminars, conferences, and educational classes emphasizing the importance that diet plays in the lives of our pets. Two really important things we’ve noticed as re-occurring themes throughout all of them is that you can’t supplement your way out of a substandard diet and that any amount of fresh food added to your pet’s diet, no matter how small, can make a big impact on your pet’s health and longevity.
Some suggestions would be lightly poached eggs, sardines (in small amounts at first as they are awfully rich), and small amounts of leftovers from your meals such as vegetables or meat, always keeping in mind to avoid such things as onions, raisins, grapes, chocolate, macadamia nuts, and cooked bones.
Diet can also be the first step in resolving a whole cast of issues including allergies, ear infections, arthritis, gastro-intestinal problems and so much more.
Don’t have the ability or desire to serve a whole fresh food diet? The next best thing would be to add probiotics and digestive enzymes to the diet you are feeding. Both of these products will aid your pet’s body in the digestion and utilization of the diet that you are feeding.
